Rock or finely ground quicklime is transformed into hydrated lime in the hydrator by the addition of water at a reaction temperature of approximately 100 °C. Residual moisture content of the hydrated lime can be adjusted by adding water according to the reaction temperature and the residence time of the material in the hydrator. Vapours generated during the hydration process are dusted, the filter being an integral part of the hydrator. Weighted dosing of quicklime, the addition of water according to the reaction temperature and a well-thought-out measuring system allow a fully automated operation.
